Name the films for which Mani Rathnam donned the writer's cap for other directors.

1. Chathriyan (1990), directed by his assistant K. Subhash; was scripted by Mani Rathnam.

2. Gaayam (Telugu; 1993), directed by Ram Gopal Varma; the screenplay was by Mani Rathnam; yet another of those films that had shades of Godfather; was dubbed in Tamil as Desam.

3. Indira (1996), directed by his wife Suhasini, with whom he co-wrote the screenplay of the film.

4. Taj Mahal (1999), directed by Bharathiraja; the dialogue was by Mani Rathnam.

  • Yeah, kshana Kshanam? I do think he has done the screenplay for Kshana Kshanam, which is also the basis for a trivia I had posted on a comment earlier - RGV did the screenplay for TT and Mani for KK. But this is not confirmed anywhere on WWW. Need to watch the movie sometime on DVD to confirm

  • I think the only film which Mani wrote for RGV was Gaayam.

It is said that RGV wrote the screenplay for Thiruda Thiruda because Mani was impressed with his work in Kshanakshanam. But, I haven't see "Kshanakshanam" myself, so I can't be too sure.

  • I distinctly remember Desam carrying Mani's name in the credits (and Revathi's face) in the posters when the film was released.

But, I haven't seen much of Ennamo Nadakkuthu or Kshanakshanam to know more. Sources on the Net seem to be quite assured, though. Did, by any chance, Mani saar write, God forbid, the Tamil dialogues? Unimaginable, it would be.

  • I just saw the credits mentioned in the beginning of the film.
    Story-Screenplay-Direction
    Ramgopal Varma.
It doesn't credit anyone specifically for the dialogue.
