Toulouse Lautrec's legs were abnormally short. Ferrer had acted with his legs folded and tied backwards. Kamal had suggested a full length movie based on this to Balachandar. But he gave him only a small scene in Punnagai mannan and told a full length movie will be a flop. The shishya proved the Guru wrong.

I have a different trivia on the same. The film was initially shot with a different story and screen play giving lot of importance to the Appu character. When Kamlhassan saw the rush he was not that greatly excited and had Panju Arunachalam (A script expert) to see the movie and suggest changes. Around 50% of the movie was shot again and the end the same was released with lot of commercial aspects which was missing in the original. If the movie was to be released with the original storyline it might have been a major flop like Raajaparvai. In that sense KB was right hoping Kamal Sir would have narrated the original story line (One line in Kollywood Language)
