"Karupaana Kaiyilae " from Thamiraparani is a blatant lift from a devotional song. Which one?

Karpoora Nayagiyae by L.R.Eswari.

( It is so shameful that Ilayaraja's son has to stoop so low)

  • it need not be a casing of 'stooping low'. It's something like 'Margazhi Poove' from 'May Madham'. I know its not the same thing, but it is clearly not a case of Yuvan stealing from a 'potentially unidentifiable' source. e.g. 'Runaway' by Corrs rehased into 'Nenjodu Kalandhidu' (Kadhal Kondein).

  • Almost every song in kadhal kondein is lifted. check http://www.itwofs.com/tamil-yuvan.html

But when I say stooping low, i dont mean the part about copying. I mean copying a revered religious song for a raunchy song. It often offends the listeners who associate the tune with something sacred. There was nothing offensive about Margazhi poove ( though ARR used only the interludes). The only other instance I can recollect of such filth is Deva using the Kandar Sashti kavasam for "pathinettu vayasu" from suryan.

  • dont know how true this is but i read somewhere that the director of the movie got permission from the copyright holders of the song (if such things exist in india that is) before letting YSR readapt it
