Related trivia: It was initially a drama performed by Senthamarai and troupe. Shivaji saw the play once and was so impressed that he decided to make it a film. Apparently, in the drama the Shivaji character was to commit suicide for having a son like that but was changed on Shivaji's advice. Source: Mahendran's 'Cinemaavum naanum'.
