Name the first tamil film with a football player as its chief protagonist.

Dhaas starring Jeyam Ravi.

  • Ah! Caught you there - unless a protagonist is defined only as a fighting-dancing hero, we have a precedent. Kannada Crazy Star V.Ravichandran(who is infact a tamilian) made his Tamil debut in a forgettable film, so forgettable that I have forgotten its name, where he starred as a football player who sells his kidney for his family's well-being etc. The focus was obviously not on his footballing skills - nevertheless,it played an important part on plot development what with the loss of kidney affecting his playing aboility etc. Surely, that must qualify as the first instance?

  • Raj : The film you are referring to is poi mukangal.Ravichandran made his debut in that film in a different name, rakesh and sulakshana was his pair.I have seen the film and i dont think the hero was a football player.

The film was based on Sujatha's kagitha changiligal. [years back, Panju Arunachalam took rights from sujatha and started a film in the same name with Suman and Ambika. The film was shelved in the midway]. Even in the original story, the protagonist was not a football player

    so...

  • Thanks for that clarification - my memory is vague so I will go by your assertion but I seem to vaguely remember a sports connection with the hero sacrificing his sporting ambitions for raising money through selling kidney. Strange - maybe I saw a telugu remake where the story was slightly twisted.
