I posted this more to get a clarification. It was apparently based on a play. Who wrote the play however seems to be unclear? Randor Guy in a hindu article says it was Pa.Neelakantan NYT's Jonathan Crow says it was S V Sahasranamam
S.Vaidheeswaran, a famous writer and a poet ( also nephew of SV Sahasharanamam) confirms that the play was written by Pa.Neelakantan and staged by SVS for NSK Nadaga Sabha. AVM Chettiar paid neelakantan and not SVS.
S.V..sahasranaamam who acted as hero in the play was also booked forthe film made by AVM..He was asked to come to karaikkudi for a month or so to act in the film.Mr S V S refused the offer because the drama at Walltax theatre was a daily show running to months together and he cannot be away from the theatre..[May be it is also his love for theatre more than the money]..AVM kept his contract alive and offered him a good role later in ``vaazkkai`` which established him more firmly in films.
