I think this happened in a Modern Theatres film as well. Manohar was the hero and Gemini Ganesan again was villain here. I think the film was 'Vallavan Oruvan' or 'Vallavanukku vallavan'. Maybe, someone can help....

Yes, the movie was produced my Modern Theatres ltd., directed by TR Sundaram. Manohar was Hero and Gemini Ganesan was villain. Movie name is Vallavankku vallavan.
