Technically speaking, when does a copied film become an original?

In Kollywood, apparently if a copied script has 6 new scenes, then it's considered an original. Can you believe it?

    Interesting. I remember Vetrimaran said something on these lines, but gave it a different spin, in an interview here. I quote him,
    "It doesn’t work that way in India since the laws that are supposed to protect a person’s script is so fragile that the case will stand its chance only if the complainant has at least 11 scenes in common with the script he claims has been lifted."
